Custom Catan Board Gift

The gift-buyer's board. Hardwood, patent-pending inlay, engravable face, made-to-order in Tulsa — arrives in a shop box, not a shipping bag.

Buying a Catan board as a gift means choosing something the recipient will use for years. It also means guessing at their species preference, their table size, and whether they own the 5–6 expansion. This page walks through those decisions.

The safe default is the 2–4 player Heirloom Inlay board — $530 in your choice of six American hardwoods. Every Catan household plays 3–4 players at some scale, and this board fits that use case exactly. If the recipient is a serious Catan household with the expansion pack already, look at The Heir instead — the double-sided board handles both formats.

Add $50 for engraving. Add a shop card in the box if you tell us at checkout. Ships insured direct to the recipient with a plain shipping label — no promo material, no invoice, no Amazon markings. It arrives looking like what it is: a piece of hardwood a shop in Tulsa made for them.

Boards worth gifting

“Ordered the Heirloom in cherry as an anniversary gift for my husband. Bryce answered every question in a real email chain, sent a proof of the engraving, and the box arrived four weeks later exactly on time. My husband opened it and got quiet in the way he only does when something matters. Not a small thing to get right.” — Melissa P., verified owner

Common questions

How do I know which species the recipient will like?

You don't, and that's fine. Species is a photo choice; every board plays identically. If you're guessing, Maple reads classic and universal. Walnut reads formal. Osage Orange reads distinctive. Any of them ages beautifully. Bryce is happy to help you pick — message us before you order.

Can you ship directly to the recipient with a gift note?

Yes. Enter their address as the shipping address at checkout, then note the gift message in the order comments. We tuck a printed card in the box. No shop material, no invoice, no promo — just the board and your note.

How much time do I need to order before the gift date?

5 weeks minimum for Heirloom boards (3–4 week build + 1 week shipping buffer). 6 weeks if you're adding engraving. 3 weeks for the Field Edition. If your date is tighter, message us before ordering — we can occasionally accommodate rushes but never at the cost of quality.

Can I add engraving to a gift order?

Yes. $50 add-on. Include a name, a date, a monogram, or a small piece of artwork. Bryce sends a proof to you (not the recipient) before cutting so the surprise stays intact.

What's included in the box?

The board only. No Catan game pieces (copyright — we don't manufacture the tiles). If your recipient doesn't own Catan yet, order the base game separately. A tucked-in shop card if you request it. Board arrives cured, oiled, and hand-checked.

What if the recipient wants to exchange for a different species?

Each board is made to order, so we can't restock. But if the species genuinely doesn't work for them, message us within 30 days of delivery and we'll work something out. In practice this has never come up — hardwood tends to grow on people.
